Modifying DPS9000 (external battery) attachment to the FZ-10

The Digipower DPS9000(review) is an external battery pack which attaches to the FZ10's tripod mount. Some people think the battery's capacity is 1800 mAh (the manufacturers themselves do not specify the battery capacity!). At least one user reports filling a 512 megabyte card without having to recharge the DPS9000. KraZYHorSe (who also posted images of his FZ10 and DPS9000 to this link) reports getting 5-6 hours of usage with the DPS9000, compared to 2 hours with the standard battery.

Gene (genece in both dpreview and Steve's Digicams forum) has some comments both about the DPS9000 `as shipped' and also describes his modifications to the DPS9000...

Battery weight is 4.8 oz, and it helped me hold the camera steadier but It did not allow access to the battery & SD card door.

I rigged up an adapter so I could get to the door and in the process I feel it helped me hold steadier and also centers the mount on a tripod plus you can access the battery and sd card door while the camera is mounted to a tripod. Some pictures here.

One thing I do not like about it is the camera auto shut-off does not work with the pack.
If you use the `5 volt' cable, the DPS9000 can recharge a Sharp Zaurus SL-5500. The DPS9000, when used with the FZ-10, does not re-charge the internal battery.
